Judy serves as the Placitas Community Library Board Chair

Judy is a recent transplant from Philadelphia where she just retired as head of the Vocabulary and Information Architecture department from Merck Pharmaceuticals Research Division. Judy takes her volunteer role as seriously as she did her career. She is a facilitator at the Albuquerque Children's Grief Center , a reader for the Peanut Butter & Jelly preschool, a volunteer at the VA Hospital Medical Library and for fun she volunteers at the Outpost Performance Space, the NM Jazz Workshop.

Judy received her B.A from University of Texas , Austin , a MS in Information Science from University of Southern California and a Post-Masters fellowship from the US Public Health Service to specialize in Biomedical Information. She has worked in Academic Medical libraries, Hospital libraries and the Pharmaceutical information technology departments.

Judy loves living in and being part of the Placitas Community. She feeds her body with yoga, her mind with reading and volunteering and her soul with jazz.

Gail serves as a Board Member and Chair of the Building Committee

She is a teacher and artist who came from the Philadelphia / Wilmington Delaware area where she chaired a high school art department and taught part time at the University of Delaware and Delaware Art Museum . She has a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from the University of Delaware . Gail was active as a volunteer with her church in Hockessin , Delaware where she chaired the membership committee, was a member of the architect selection committee and chaired the building design committee. The new church facility opened in 2002.

 

When Gail moved to New Mexico she taught part time for several years for at Albuquerque Academy and retired in Placitas. She became a volunteer at the library and was delighted to again have the opportunity to use her experience with building planning. New plans for desperately needed larger facilities had already begun and initial funding was becoming available.

Gail has four children and seven rapidly growing grandchildren. They have settled all over the United states and love to visit the new family home base in Placitas. Their favorite places are the painting studio and dark room at Gail's home.

Rebecca Watson-Boone has a Masters and a Ph.D. in Library/Information Science. She has worked as an academic librarian at Princeton University and the University of Arizona (Tucson), and has taught in graduate LIS programs. Her most recent book was published in 2007 by the American Library Association and is titled “A Good Match: Library Career Opportunities for Graduates of Liberal Arts Colleges”. Rebecca sees the Placitas Community Library as the community's commons, general information and reading center, and open door to learning for people of all ages. She hopes that the library's new building will be large enough to include a collection of materials about the history, culture, and current happenings of Placitas.
